I've got no real beef with the vast majority of these nominations. Yes there were far better performances than Meryl Streep in Prada, not that she's not the best actress that ever lived, but they could have given her the night off. I'm so happy for Ryan Gosling, unquestionably the best actor of his generation and like me a Jack Mormon who's a pretty good guitar player - yea, I'll ride that train. Clearly the academy didn't know what to do with Borat. They had to do something he won the Globe for best actor, can't just ignore the film altogether, it'll make us look like a bunch of Jews with no sense of humor, gotta do something. "I know - how about Adapted screenplay." But what will we say it was adapted from. "The Book." The Book, there was no book, there wasn't even a screenplay it was improvised? "Surely somebody wrote something down?" Yeah on the back of a business card. "Oh Jesus, so you're saying there was neither a script or a book?" Did you see the movie - they were making it up as they went? "What if we pretend like we're joking, it's a comedy right, ha ha ha we're making a joke, we'll have Robin Williams present?" No we'll have you present.
