Rambo is Back, And is He Pissed!
"What's my catch-phrase? Yippy Ky A Mommy or something?"
Last year saw the return of Sylvetster Stallone's iconic palooka Rocky Balboa. For Sly's next film, he'll be reaching into the vault yet again, ressurecting the one and only John Rambo. Times certainly have changed since Rambo 3 graced the screen way back in 1988, and with the sensitive (and extremely well done) swan song that was Rocky Balboa, I automatically assumed that, perhaps, Stallone would go a little softer with his latest Rambo adventure. WHAT THE HELL DO I KNOW? If anything, the three and half minute clip proves that Stallone isn't shying away from violence--GRAPHIC VIOLENCE! The clip starts off rather mild giving us sappy glimpses of a women pleading with a passive Rambo (sporting a goofy looking head band), to help bring peace to the battlefield that is Burma. Rambo suggests that unless this woman and her hapless team of cohorts are going in guns ablazing, there will be no peace. About ninety seconds into the clip, all hell breaks lose, and I'm not kidding when I tell you, this extended trailer shows some of the most graphic images (decapitations, split bellies, etc.) I've seen in a long time and given that this is a Rambo film, I couldn't be happier. The featurette certainly has it's fair share of cheese, but ultimately, the footage displays a contemporary tone, with 80's style violence. As Harry Knowles says, John Rambo ain't no PG-13. Whether or not the film gets hacked by the MPAA remains to be seen. Regardless, 2008 looks to be an exciting year for movies. We'll see the continuing adventures of Indiana Jones, The Dark Knight in action, another Star Trek installment, and John Rambo tearing up the enemy--literally. This clip will only be up for a couple of days, so take a look before it's too late. Add your own comment here and see it posted immediately!
