Vice President Al Gore's son has been formally charged with possession of marijuana and prescription drugs.

24-year-old Al Gore III was arrested on the 4th of July in Orange County, Calif. Cops say he was protecting the environment at a clip of 100 mph in his 2006 Prius. Along with the weed, Gore allegedly had a stash of Adderall, Xanax, Vicodin, and Valium in the car.

The Orange County D.A. charged Gore III with two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, two misdemeanor counts of possessing a controlled substance without a prescription, one misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana, and a traffic violation for driving at excessive speeds.

He is out on $20,000 bail. If convicted, he could be eligible for a drug diversion program instead of jail. Papa Al paid his sons bail stating that kids all make mistakes, condemning the arresting officers for leaving two styrofoam coffee cups at the scene by the side of the road. In times like these, he said, misdeeds have to be weighed on a more global scale - shame on those pigs.
