In a related arrest Britney Spears flew into a rage when someone put a Creed CD in her player as a joke and it got stuck. After she was brought to her senses with a tranq dart, she was lead away in tears mumbling "why couldn't it have been Creedence"

A charge against former Creed frontman Scott Stapp stemming from an apparent confrontation with his wife was reduced to a misdemeanor Monday. Stapp had been charged with aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony after he was arrested at his home Sunday. No one was injured, Palm Beach County sheriff's officials said.

Judge Cory J. Ciklin reduced the charge ''because the allegation is that Stapp is no better at throwing bottles at loved ones than he is at writing songs,'' sheriff's spokesman Paul Miller said.

''Based on the circumstances, the defense attorney argued that though Stapp's songwriting is clearly a danger it's not technically a deadly weapon,'' Miller said.

Prosecuting attorneys are said to be dying to argue this point on cross.

''This is a private matter between the members of the Stapp family and we would hope that their privacy is respected. Scott and Jaclyn are both well, and any further relevant information will be forthcoming at the appropriate time,'' said a statement from Stapp's record company, Washed-up Records.

Stapp was scheduled to be released Monday on supervised release. He would be subject to random drug, alcohol and talent testing, Miller said.
