THE HOLIDAY EDITION OF THE GUERILLA FILM-MAKING COMPETITION
Calling all film-makers in St. George, UT. Firstly, I want to say thanks to those who participated in our recent competition. It was an amazing night. And what a crowd! Secondly, I'm going to try something I've been wanting to do for quite some time. You see, as much as I love Halloween, Christmas holds a very special place in my heart. That warm and fuzzy feeling you get inside, the consumption of mass quantities of egg nog, and , of course, Christmas movies! While I love doing the Guerilla competitions in October and May, I recognize that we sometimes alienate certain audiences because of our edgier themes and final film products. This is what I've come up with: "The Holiday Edition of The Guerilla Film-Making Competition". With this particular comp., I thought it would be fun to create an event for families and audiences of all ages. So this is the plan; On Thursday Nov. 18th, we request that film-makers interested in taking part in this competition meet in front of The Electric Theater at 7:30 PM. As usual, we'll present a theme, but with this particular competition, we want to show an entirely new side of the film-makers, so expect something very different. The films will be due by Monday, Dec. 6th. For this special holiday edition of the competition, the fee will be $15 per film (to be paid on the 18th). In the December issue of The Independent (and at Zboneman.com), we'll have a full article on a holiday event we like to call "A Merry Movie Christmas". We're looking at mid December for the event. We understand that this is a busy time of year, particularly for those with families (and school), but it is our hope that this will be a really special get together, and quite frankly, we'd like to encourage the film-makers to get their families involved in their projects. After all, family is what Christmas is really about. We hope to see all of the usual film-makers take part in this, but with any luck, we'll have plenty of newcomers as well. On a final note, we plan on showing a couple of Holiday films along with the Guerilla shorts. If you have a recommendation for a Christmas film you'd like to see, please list it here at the message board. Happy Holidays everyone.
