It has officially been announced that a biopic based on the life of former INXS frontman
Michael Hutchence is to go ahead. An exceptional team of writers will pair with respected music video director Nick Egan for a biopic based on the life of the musician. The project entitled SLIDE AWAY will be written by Chester Hastings and Dean McCreary (upcoming REMEMBERING VENICE with Morgan Freeman). Today on THN, there are a number of interesting insights into the upcoming project from the filmmakers themselves. Director Egan, who also designed some of the band's most famous album covers told THN, "This is not your usual biopic. This is his life in between the videos and music everyone knows and loves. We've taken elements that are very timely and blended them with the quite classical. You'll take a journey through Michael's head from his perspective, but as with anyone, Michael's perspective isn't a universal truth. Its just one truth." The movie will largely cover the highest point in Hutchence's life from 1987-1997 and span continents, famous friendships (such as Kylie Minogue and Paula Yates) and answer all the outstanding questions. "When we asked all who were truly close to Michael what they hoped the project would evoke, the universal answer was a film that would convey Michael's sensitivity, sensuality and humor," says co-exectutive producer, David Edwards. "We'll have done our job correctly if Sir Bob (Geldof), Bono, Kylie and most importantly Michael's daughter, Tiger exit the theaters telling us we did it right,"
producer Clark Westerman added. When asked about the music, the producers were still hashing out details of which tracks would make the final cut. "The goal is to have music that truly fits the picture and that evokes Michael Hutchence," said Edwards."There are tracks of Michael's that were never properly distributed at the time "I mean- "My God," a Bono/Hutchence track , Michaels solo and Max Q tracks will be amazing to have in the film. Michael's lyrics are so autobiographical - its very difficult to whittle down the list. We also know Michael's influences and favorites during that period spanning from Nick Cave thru Portishead and Souxie." Edwards added. "Because of Michael's so very exotic life, and all of his exploits, the interest level in the script has been incredible" said Westerman. The film's title, SLIDE AWAY is taken from a posthumous duet that paired Hutchence with U2's Bono.
