Hollywood lovebirds Penelope Cruz and Matthew McConaughey have split, blaming their heavy work schedules. The couple, who met and started dating while filming "Sahara" said in statement: "We have decided to take time off as a couple. Due to busy work schedules and so much time apart, we mutually decided four weeks ago that separating was the best thing to do."

Cruz previously dated new dad, Tom Cruise and is presently in Spain filming bull-fighting biopic, 'Manolete', while McConaughey is filming a new sports drama 'We Are Marshall' in America. But sources close to the pair have revealed the split may not be a permanent fixture. "They are still very close friends, but simply haven't been able to be together. Who knows what the future holds?" one said. So I guess it's 'watch this space!'
