Hollywood heavyweights Sean Penn and Susan Sarandon are soon to be lighterweights after having announced they are to take part in a hunger strike as a protest in support of anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan, whose soldier son Casey was killed in Iraq in 2004. At a press conference in front of the White House, Sheehan said, "Everything we do is to get our troops to come home. We want to show the world that there are Americans who are committed to peace. Fasting is such a time-honoured way of protest." As well as Penn and Sarandon, a host of other stars are getting involved including 'Lethal Weapon' actor Danny Glover and country music legend Willie Nelson. (That's gotta be tough with the munchies) They plan to take turns to abstain from food on set days in a "rolling programme" of fasts until September 21st 2006 - International Peace Day. Nelson has volunteered to do the rolling.
