THE RED ROCK FILM FESTIVAL IS BACK!
Hot on the heals of Southern Utah's amazing Docutah Film Festival, is The Red Rock Film Festival. Now in its 4th year, TRRFF returns with a few pleasant alterations. First and most importantly, Festival Director Matt Matt Marxteyn has decided to centralize the proceedings. In other words, while there will be a few events held in surrounding areas (i.e. Springdale), most of the screenings will take place in St. George, UT as to make it easier for locals to get from one film to the other. It is Marxteyn's hope that this welcome change will also make things easier for the onslaught of out of towners he suspects will be attending the festival this year. In addition, TRRFF has been slightly streamlined. Rather than running a week long, programmers have opted to keep the proceedings limited to a brisk but joyously jam packed four day event.
While The Red Rock Film Festival is still relatively young, its huge in terms of worthy independent cinema. The festival will feature shorts, documentaries, and feature films from all over the world. So be sure to mark your calendars. TRRFF will run from Nov. 11th-14th. The screenings and various film related events will take place at a handful of venues in St. George. Included; Westates' Red Cliff Cinema (located at 1750 E. Red Cliff Dr.), The Dixie Center (located at 1835 Convention Center Dr.), Holiday Inn (located at 850 S. Bluff St.), and Red Robin (located at 640 W. Telegraph St.). Closing day events will take place in Springdale right outside of the breathtaking Zion Canyon. Indvidual screening tickets are $15, Panel Discussion tickets are $20, and package deals run from $45-$350.
Marxteyn has put a great deal of time and effort into The Red Rock Film Festival since its inception. While he's been involved in several festivals through the years as either a programmer or as a passionate attendee, there was no question that when it came to finally unleashing his own film maker platform, he thought Sothern Utah the perfect place. While Northern Utah is home to the legendary Sundance Film Festival, there will be a day when Southern Utah will be recognized for its very own film-maker springboard.
