Sony snaps up Curse of the Golden Flower

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Chow-Yun fat and Gong Li (RAISE THE RED LANTERN) will be appearing in CURSE OF THE GOLDEN FLOWER, a film that has just been snapped up by Sony Pictures Classics for distribution in the US. The film, which is directed by HOUSE OF THE FLYING DAGGERS helmer, Zhang Yimou, follows the story of an ill-fated romance between an imperial bodyguard and a prince. IMDB states that the film follows the lovers on a dangerous journey where royal family secrets are revealed. The film is based on the play by William Kong. Shooting is underway as we speak over in China, and should be released mid-2007.
