SPIDER-MAN RETURNS!
Sam Raimi and Toby Maguire have left the Spider-Man franchise, and while Spider-Man 3 wasn't exactly a great note to go out on, it still made a gazillion dollars making Sony's decision to part ways with Raimi and crew a bit puzzling. Still, if Raimi had to leave, at least Sony made an interesting choice when choosing a replacement. The next Spider-Man film will be directed by...Marc Webb! Yes, the same Marc Webb who directed last year's stellar (500) Days of Summer. While this news is somewhat surprising, consider me intrigued. (500) Days of Summer was my favorite film of 2009 and while most of that film's success has been attributed to the performances and the writing, make no mistakes! Webb's contribution was key. With Webb's background in music videos, his undeniable style should be a perfect fit for Spider-Man. Also a perfect fit? His name. I mean seriously! Marc WEBB! How perfect is that. No word on casting although some sites have been reporting crazy Robert Pattinson rumors. I hope those rumors are squashed into oblivion. Some circles seem to think that perhaps Webb's (500) Days star Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a possibility also, but he may be too old for a Peter Parker who will reportedly be seen in his high school days. Webb just landed the job and from what we're hearing, he'll be back for two more Spider-Man films provided the first one is popular. So consider it a done deal. We'll keep you posted on further developments. Congrats to Marc Webb!
