GET LOW - SUNDANCE 2010
Truth be told, this 1930's era fable/folktale might have made my best of fest had I given it the attention it truly deserved. When attending these festivals, quality sleep is rare. And sometimes, good films are a casualty of this fact. Of all the films I saw at Sundance this year, Get Low was the only one I got sleepy during. This has nothing to do with the film itself, but everything to do with my not getting enough rest. I made it through the picture without falling asleep, but parts of the film are a little bit fuzzy, therefore I don't feel that I can give an honest critique of the overall film. What I can say is that Robert Duvall is astonishing here as a hermit who throws a funeral party while he's still alive. Look no further than Duvall's final monologue delivery. But then, Duvall is always astonishing. He's one of our greatest actors. I can also say that Bill Murray and Sissy Spacek compliment this American icon perfectly. I look forward to seeing Get Low again. When I do, expect a real review.
