SKATELAND-SUNDANCE 2010
Skateland harkens back to the good old days of roller skating classics like Roller Boogie and Skatetown U.S.A. Its also a bit of an ode to John Hughes. Actually, Skateland itself serves more as a metaphor than it does an actual location. This is a story about that tough transition into adulthood. The cast is extremely likable and there are several noteworthy moments to speak of (watch for a hilariously dead on impersonation of Christopher Walken early on in the movie), but Skateland tries a little too hard at pleasing the audience. And the dramatic detour in the final act of the film, doesn't quite work. Still, an affectionate little movie.
