The ancient legends of the Grey Lady and the Smoking Cavalier or white sheets, wailing
and the sounds of chains clanging - whatever your beliefs about ghosts and the
after-life, these ten dearly-departed celebrities prove that not even death has stopped them from entertaining us! Despite passing over to the other side, here are the top ten celebrity ghosts that could just not bare to be out of the limelight.
10) James Dean
While there have been no actual reported sightings of Dean's spirit, a legendary curse is said to be placed on his beloved Porsche Spyder. Dean loved to live life in the fast lane and he purchased the car with the intent to race it, but it was a love that he would pay for with his life. On September 30, 1955, whilst driving the Spyder, Dean was killed in a head on collision. Afterwards, anyone who came into contact with the car or its parts began to suffer injuries, even death - until the vehicle finally mysteriously disappeared ... off an exit East of Eden -
9) John Wayne
The old "Duke" himself has been seen many times aboard his old yacht, the "Wild Goose." But when psychics investigated the ghostly sightings, they felt that he wasn't trapped there, but rather just returning to one of his favorite haunts.
8) John Lennon
On the 8th December 1980, deranged fan Mark Chapman asked for Lennon's autograph only to lie in wait to kill him just a few hours later. Chapman shot Lennon several times as he entered the Dakota, his luxury apartment building on Manhattan's Upper West Side, opposite Central Park. Today, the former Beatle's ghost has been sighted many times walking the hallways inside The Dakota. "No hell below us - above us only sky?"
7) Clark Gable & Carole Lombard
Gable was one of the biggest box office stars of the 1930's and 40's and he and his wife Carole Lombard are said to haunt the Oatman Hotel in Oatman, Arizona where the couple spent their honeymoon. Lombard, who was tragically killed in a plane crash just three years after her marriage to Gable, is also said to haunt the suite she shared with her
husband at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. I guess I find it harder to believe that the couple spent their honeymoon in Oatman, Arizona?
6)Lucille Ball
The star of hit 50's comedy show, 'I Love Lucy' died of a ruptured aorta during surgery on April 26, 1989, at the age of 77. Today her spirit is still said to be residing in her home at 100 North Roxbury Drive in Beverley Hills. The new owners have spoken of unexplained broken windows, loud voices being heard from an empty attic and furniture and other objects moving around inside the house. Could it be "little Ricky" or is the place just a little rickety?
5) Montgomery Clift
A popular film star of the 1950's and 60's and four-time Oscar nominee, Clift is best known for his roles in "A Place in the Sun," "From Here to Eternity" and "Judgment at Nuremberg." His spirit has been seen at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Room 928 where he spent three months in 1953 while filming "From Here to Eternity." He was known to pace back and forth, memorizing his lines; and today unexplained loud noises are often heard coming from the otherwise empty suite. The phone is continually found to be off the hook and unexplainable cold spots are often felt in the room. Others sense the actor's presence and one guest has reportedly felt an invisible hand patting her shoulder. Obviously Monty prefers here to eternity and the cold spots are just the Ghost taking a break from that damn place in the sun.
4) Orson Welles
One of Hollywood's finest directors, as well as a talented actor, writer and producer, Welles died of a heart attack in California age 70 on October 10, 1985. A man who loved to eat, his spirit continues to be seen at the "Sweet Lady Jane's Restaurant," where he was a frequent visitor. Both customers and staff have reported seeing Welles' caped apparition sitting at his favorite table with the smell of his favorite brandy and cigars often accompanying these sightings. Myth debunkers explain the apparition to a good sized water stain on the wall that in a certain light does resemble the rotund thespian. Who says "myth debunkers" don't have a sense of humor - they call the apparition "Citizen Stain."
3) Elvis Presley
Not only is this legendary singer believed to haunt his beloved home in Memphis, but also stagehands working at the Las Vegas Hilton (where he often performed in the early 1970's) have reported regularly seeing him dressed in his famous white-sequined suit. Presley has also been 'seen' in the building that housed the recording studios of RCA where it is thought he recorded his 1956 hit single, Heartbreak Hotel. Although RCA is no longer there, the building is now a TV production studio that produces music-related programs. According to people that have worked there, every time Elvis? names is mentioned something strange happens, such as ladders falling down, lights blowing out, and unexplained noises coming through the sound system! We can't go on like this, with "Superstitious Minds."
2)Marilyn Monroe
After slipping into a coma caused by an overdose of sleeping pills on August 4, 1962, Monroe never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead the next day. Today, her spirit is known to haunt the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, where she often stayed at the height of her popularity. Her image is most frequently seen in a full-length mirror that once hung in her poolside suite. It now hangs in the lobby where numerous people have reported seeing Monroe's image reflected in the glass. Her ghost has also been spotted hovering near her tomb at Westwood Memorial Cemetery in Los Angeles, California and she is also said to haunt the house where she took the fatal dose of sleeping pills. According to psychics, Monroe relayed to them that her death was not suicide, but an accident. Kind of like Chappaquiddick?
1) Rudolph Valentino
One of the greatest romantic idols of Hollywood's silent movie era, his blossoming career was cruelly cut short when he died at the age of 31 from complications of an ulcer. Immediately after his death, Valentino began to haunt his home grounds of Hollywood and to this day, is said to be its most active ghost. Valentino has been spotted in a number of places, most often in his former mansion, the Falcon's Lair. Here, his image has been seen in hallways, in his old bedroom, peering from a window on the second floor and in the stables. One stable worker, after having seen Valentino petting his favorite horse, promptly quit his job and never returned. He has also been spotted at his beach house in Oxnard and the Santa Maria Inn where he is reported to continuously knock on the door. Valentino's ghostly shadows have also been seen floating among the costume department at Paramount Studios and roaming the catwalks above Studio Five. Lastly, he has also been sighted near his resting place in the Cathedral Mausoleum
at Hollywood Forever Memorial Park. All that leaves me to say is that if you never had the opportunity to see these celebrities in real life, you might still be able to catch a glimpse of them as they continue to haunt the places of their pasts... If you're still reading I'm to tired to come up with a joke for this one. I was thinking the other ghosts never let poor Rudolf join in any chain-fear games. That's awful, thank God there's no more bloody ghosts wandering around Hollywood, other than Calista Flockhart.
