SHOWEST 2010-DISNEY/PIXAR PROUDLY PRESENT TOY STORY 3
God bless Pixar and Disney. Rather than giving us a look at their upcoming slate, they simply said "screw it! We're just going to show exhibitors Toy Story 3 in ints entirety." And attendees were all the luckier for it. Now this is a tough one. Some sites have gone into length about this exclusive ShoWest screening but I'm going to honor Disney/Pixar's plea and not go too much into it. What I will say is that the screening of Toy Story 3 we were lucky enough to see was introduced by John Lasseter and stars Woody and Buzz Lightyear. The film isn't quite finished yet. There were a few unrendered scenes and a lot of temp score, neither of which hurt the overall effectiveness of the movie. We didn't get to see Toy Story 3 in 3-D either. That's fine and dandy though, because I have every intention of seeing it in Imax 3-D when it opens on June 18th. Again, I'm not going to go into plot detail but if you've seen the trailer or read about the movie at IMDB you're already well aware of what this highly anticipated summer film is about. Beyond that, I'll also say that Pixar is now 11 for 11 as far as I'm concerned (the studio was honored with a special "Big 10" award--well deserved). This was the movie I was most excited to see at ShoWest and it did not disappoint (watch for a full review this June)! Neither did the amazing Pixar short that preceded it, a creative little ditty called Day and Night from story board artist Teddy Newton. Of all the Pixar shorts we've been treated to through the years, this clever tale of a chance meeting between Day and Night is my favorite. If I had any gripe with Disney/Pixar's Toy Story 3 presentation, its that they didn't take the opportunity to give us more footage from Tron: Legacy. A minor quibble though. Disney/Pixar started ShoWest 2010 off with a bang.
