Yes, everyone's favorite talking pig is back in one of the most bizzare sequels I've ever seen. I'm probably one of the only people on the planet that did not care for the first one. I found the original, if you'll pardon the pun, to be a big bore.
This time out, Babe goes to the big city with his human to try to earn money to save James Cromwell's farm. As expected, he lands himself in all kinds of trouble, but is aided by an army of animals including monkeys, cats and gold fish. The effects are quite good and so are the voices, most notably Steven Wright as a cynical chimpanzee.
This sequel is a step above the original and a lot of credit should go to director George Miller (the Mad Max films) for infusing this film with all kinds of gusto. The screenplay bogs down the story by trying to be enchanting and memorable, but ends up being neither. Although Babe: Pig In The City had me smiling a couple of times, I didn't go home very enchanted.
