Some folks are calling I Am Number 4 Twilight with aliens instead of vampires. While there is some logic in that statement, I Am Number 4 has an entirely different tone. This sci fi flick (based on the novel by Pittacus Lore) features Alex Pettyfer as John - a young man who moves from town to town with guardian Henri (played by Timothy Olpyphant) by his side. Clearly, these two are on the run, but from who (or what)? After arriving in Paradise, Ohio, John is reluctant to leave after falling head over heals for local beauty Sarah (played by Dianna Agron of Glee fame). John's identity is ultimately revealed after his pursuers close in.

I Am Number 4 is slickly directed by PJ Caruso(Disturbia and Eagle Eye), and while it isn't a bad movie (I sort of wish it sucked so I could use my "I Am Number 2" heading) it is a painfully average one. The set up is slow to develop and even though I Am Number 4 does pick up steam in the second half, the entire conceit is a bit on the silly side. Still, Caruso mounts a couple of nifty action sequences (which look particularly cool in Imax) and he deserves further props for casting a wonderfully entertaining Kevin Durand as the film's primary villain.
