Danny DeVito and Holly Hunter star in this bittersweet romantic comedy from first time director Richard LaGravanese, screenwriter of The Bridges of Madison County and The Fisher King.
DeVito, in one of his best performances, plays a lonely divorcee who can,t seem to get his life together. Hunter is a high-spirited divorcee who doesn't know what she wants out of life. When their paths cross, the film becomes an interesting and original story about love and friendship.
Living Out Loud succeeds because of the strong performances and the fact that it never becomes overbearing. It's a small, subtle picture with intelligent dialogue with lots of heart. Good work Mr. Lagravanese. It just goes to show you that a small film can be an effective one, without car chases and machine guns.
