Isn't it a little too soon for a Hangover reboot? I only ask this question because that's exactly what this film is--a complete redo. Second verse, same as the first. All that's really changed is the location. Beyond that, The Hangover Part 2 is a beat for beat retread. Sure, there are subtle differences (instead of a missing tooth, Stu finds himself with a facial tattoo-- instead of a baby, a monkey joins the adventure, etc. etc.), but ultimately, this feels like a total cash grab.

This time around, Stu (played by Ed Helms) takes "The Wolf Pack" to Bangkok where he plans to wed the girl of his dreams, but shortly before his big day, he and his nit wit buddies find themselves in an awful predicament once again. I wasn't a huge fan of the first picture, but it certainly had its moments. Part 2 has fewer moments to speak of (most of the humor revolves around male genitalia--fitting since the film takes place in Bangkok).

Of the cast, Helms is the only actor who comes close to mustering up a personality. Even the usually hilarious Zach Galifianakis and funny man Ken Jeong have a hard time generating real laughs. Bradley Cooper is completely unlikable (a shame given his outstanding work in Limitless) while Justin Bartha is given an even more thankless role here than he had in the first picture. I do subscribe to the theory; "If it ain't broke don't fix it," but why on Earth would anyone want to rebuild an engine when there's nothing wrong with it in the first place? The Hangover Part 2 isn't an awful movie, but it's a painfully familiar one. Having said that, I have no doubt that it will make a ton of cash which means Part 3 is right around the corner. Here's to hoping that with the inevitable third picture, director Todd Phillips and crew put these characters in a new situation because if they don't, The Wolf Pack can kiss my tatts!
