"Everything that has a beginning, has an end." This is the catch-phrase for the final installment in the cyber-punk action series created by the innovative Wachowski Brothers.

I wasn't a huge fan of Reloaded. It did have some great moments, but ultimately, I found it over-bloated and only marginally entertaining. I also found it lacking in mystery and intrigue, the two things that really made the first film so engaging.

Revolutions picks up right where Reloaded ended, with Neo in a coma and the fate of Zion resting in his hands. Rest assured, you can't keep a good Neo down, and before long, Zion's savior sets out to prevent the destruction of mankind.

To my surprise, I enjoyed Revolutions much more than Reloaded. Sure, it's full of nonsensical philosophical psycho babble, and sure, it has some really awful dialogue (granted not nearly as much as the last installment), but ultimately, I felt that Revolutions flowed better.

There are no big car chase sequences here and the big Neo/Agent Smith fight is saved for the end. This leaves the audience with a picture that is much more, dare I say, character and story driven. Don't get me wrong, those of you wanting action and special effects won't be disappointed. They come in the form of an incredibly conceived battle between Zion and Machine City. There are explosions, gun fire, death and carnage, displayed at a furious pace and on a scale that is beyond description.

The expansion of various Reloaded characters you may all be waiting for don't really materialize, so those waiting for some big revelation surrounding the mysterious Architect, be prepared for little explanation. We do get more of the wonderfully sadistic Agent Smith (played with glee by Hugo Weaving), who continues his path toward world domination.

The Wachowskis have fashioned a brilliant and bleak landscape. Machine City is breathtaking. The fight sequences are also well choreographed, and they don't seem as excessive as they were in Reloaded, save for the climactic fight between Neo and Agent Smtih, an insane bout in which the two rivals pummel each other while in the midst of flight.

The Wachowskis do falter with the screenplay. This movie is chalk full of characters uttering lines like "why" and "how" as other characters attempt to give some kind of meaning to it all. Thankfully, they keep the silly over-the-top dialogue that plagued Reloaded to a minimum in Revolutions.

With all the Star Wars and Terminator comparisons, the film that Matrix reminds me most of is the underrated Tron. While that 80's movie seems incredibly dated in the effects department, it was far ahead of it's time with it's creative look at cyber space. Certainly, The Matrix series is more complicated, and far more violent, but there are definitely big similarities (i.e. actors playing computer programs).

Matrix Revolutions will, no doubt, make a lot of people angry. They'll complain that many of the questions they wanted answered, weren't. And they'd be right. I liked that the Wachowskis left us pondering certain things. We do get a sense of closure with regard to the battle between man and machine, but many will deem it a cop-out. I liked it to certain extent. I liked the spiritual undertones, but didn't know if I entirely bought into the fashion in which the movie comes to a close.

In the end, I would have preferred that no sequels be made. The Matrix should have been left alone. Still, I applaud the Wachowskis for attempting to give the audience a lot of bang for their buck. These movies are huge in scope.

The Matrix Revolutions is a big beast of a movie and you will see where the budget went while watching it. It is exciting on many levels but so very frustrating as well. With all it's inconsistencies and "what the hell" attitude, it's a far cry from the original, but for me, it was a big step above Reloaded.

This Movie Rawked!! I hope they never stop making sequels to this thing. I've watched all three at least a dozen times each.
