Christopher Walken stars as Victor Kelly, a down-on-his-luck mechanic who can't seem to make ends meet. His life changes when an Irish relative moves in and brings with him a part of Kelly's past that he's desperately trying to forget.
Walken is very restrained in this quiet little film that benefits from strong acting and a surprisingly low-key and subdued heist sequence. Writer/Director Myles Connell isn't interested in bullets and blood. He's interested in characters and what motivates them. Also of interest is the fact that 80's pop icon Cyndi Lauper turns in a fine performance as Walken's girlfriend.
The Opportunists isn't exactly fast and furious but it is an interesting story about the American Dream and the various ways in which it is percieved and pursued.
