There are bad films (Next Best Thing springs to mind) and then there's The Skulls, a dreadful excuse of a movie that belongs in an "Ivy" league all it's own.
Dawson Creek's Joshua Jackson stars a student who desperately wants to be a part of the Skulls, a sort of secret fraternal society that packs plenty of perks. But perks come at a price, and soon Jackson finds himself in a heap load of trouble when he tries to bite the hand that feeds him.
As I sat there watching The Skulls, I thought what I was watching was supposed to be a comedy. I mean, the dialogue is horrible, the acting is almost campy, and the situations are absurd. As the film progressed, however, I realized that the story was meant to be taken seriously.
Director Rob Cohen (Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, and Dragonheart) moves the story along at brisk pace, but everything that is happening is so ludicrous that the film feels about ten hours long. Jackson does have a screen presence, but he isn't able to showcase his appeal due to this ridiculous material.
The Skulls really is a bottom-of the-barrel movie. It's a laughable film that fails on just about every level. Make no bones about it, this film sucks!
