As a country music purist Jackson has already sold 35 million records in his career without changing the high standards of his music or song writing. I may be exaggerating, but he seems to put out new material every other week. His latest record, Drive is not his best work, but it's quickly becoming his most successful thanks to his heart-felt hit song "Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)." A song he wrote while watching television after the September 11th tragedy. My favorite track on this record is the duet with fellow purist George Straight entitled "Designated Drinker." In the tradition of classic male country duets it's an up-tempo song about drinkin' beer, rastlin' and chasin' the ladies. (Yeehaw!) Overall this is a solid, tight record. It seems Jackson's only flaw is his refusal to venture into new musical territory. But then again, If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
