Electronica forefathers Autechre stand alongside Aphex Twin, Oval, Mouse On Mars and Boards Of Canada as the purveyors of the glitch and IDM electro movement. Mixing elements of Brian Eno, Throbbing Gristle, Coil, and Neu! Autechre have been at this game for a while now, as evidenced by the fact that Untitled is their eighth album in the last twelve years.

Let me just be the first to say that this style of music isn't for everybody. If you're not into layers upon layers of experimental noise mixed with cold, complex drum & bass beats you'll find this kind of stuff extremely foreign and tedious. For those who may be looking for something off the left field wall, however, Autechre would be well worth a try.

While Untitled is far from being one of Autechre's best albums (I'd recommend the vastly superior Tri Repetae++ or LP5) it does have its moments. "Iera" feels like an attempt to program robots to make crunked-out rap beats, while "Augmatic Disport" is like tuning into seven minutes of wacked-out satellite TV fuzz; that is until the last two minutes when it becomes heavy on the kind of chilled-out bass you'd find on a dancehall reggae album. Like I said, not for the faint of heart or the impatient, but extremely interesting once you start breaking it down piece by piece after repeated spins.
