I don't know if this guy goes by BT or beaty but this record is certainly beaty--meaty and bouncy as well. This type of Dance/Trance/Trip Hop/Rap Pop isn't even close to being my cup of tea--but I've got to give props where props is due. This talented gentleman has wisely left his middle initial L out of his professional name and has put together a record that succeeds at nearly every turn.
The first two tracks give you no idea of what lies in store, but they're okay as rap songs go--track one even offers a cameo from the godfather of Rap, Grandmaster Flash. Then Mr. BT takes the open-minded listener on an aural journey that challenges, rewards and sucks you in like a black hole. More than a few tracks owe a hefty debt to Everything But The Girl, but overall itÕs an amazingly inventive work that deftly covers an astronomical amount of sonic space--upping the ante of this increasingly interesting omni-genre. To illustrate the scope of this album, the best song is a spot-on take at Brit-Pop that sounds like a Cross between Duran Duran, Depeche Mode and Oasis. Pure bliss. The next song is a rocking rapper, punctuated throughout by crunchy powerchords.
A tip of the hat goes out to the Chemical Brothers and Moby, but this stuff is in a league of his own, way out in first place. Hypnotic and bristling with brilliance this guy BT.
