Quite possibly the best album of the year! Beck puts away the two turntables and the microphone, and lays on the disco-love-funk. Who knew that Beck could sing like Prince and Al Green? Or that he could mix up some serious Herbie Hancock style electric boogaloo? The sounds and styles on this album are not unfamiliar for Beck, but listening to his previous recordings will not prepare you for the perfectly marinated sounds he presents on this record. The lyrics are still humorous, witty and sometimes unintelligible, but the real treat lies in the vocals. Beck takes his singing to a whole new level, reaching glass shattering crescendos that force you to pay attention, then smoothly telling you about the love he feels. The main emphasis of this album seems to be kinky sex and fiery love. With lyrics like, "I wanna get with you, only you...and your sister," and "hot sex in back rows," Beck shows us that he's a lover, dancer and one of the most prolific , ingenious, and eclectic artists of the decade.
