Many will argue that Black Lab is in a long line of bands that all sound alike. Well after listening to the album several times, and seeing them live twice, I have news for you, Black Lab has no business being on a list of bands typified by Third Eye Blind.

Black Lab has a kind of energy and conviction that should set them apart from the onslaught of groups that rip one another off. Lead singer Paul Durham's smooth, passionate vocals bring to mind Bono of the early years. His songs have a radio-friendly pop sound that should catch on before too long. Rounding out the band are a group of talented musicians that include; guitarist Michael Belfer, bassist Geoff Stanfield, and drummer Michael Urbano.

The album was produced by Grammy Award winner David Bianco who's worked with the likes of Tom Petty, The Posies, Natalie Merchant, and Throwing Muses. He does a brilliant job mixing Your Body Above Me. This is a breezey, great sounding record headed by the first single "Wash It Away." Other highlights include "Time Ago," A catchy tune that will probably have you humming along, "Thin White Lie," and "Anything." Pick up this album. It's a great listen, and if you have a chance to see them live, by all means, go! Black Lab deserves to be successful. If Matchbox 20 can do it, these guys definitely can. Of all the bands that sound alike, Black Lab is clearly the best!
