B.R.M.C. first came on the scene two years ago with their self
titled debut album. In fresh black leather, and a smirk that said we know
we're better than you, they showed the world that they were a force to be
reckoned with. "Whatever Happened To My Rock 'N' Roll" was an anthem for
those who were pissed off at what mainstream music had become. Drone rock was a
specialty of that first album, but Take Them On starts off with a bang of
four rowdy tunes that make you wonder who was responsible for shoving the
cattle prod up their collective asses. It's too bad though that the middle
of the album is a real snooze. Between shooting off spouts against the
government, and their own un-hip generation, the flow gets lost for a bit.
But thankfully near the end, the rousing track "Rise or Fall" has such a
razor sharp bass groove that it almost makes you forget how bored you were for a
while there. If you like your rock black with no sugar, and the collar up
for good measure, this is definitely worth your attention.
