What is the proper definition of a sellout? Most will tell you that it is when an artist or a team of artists such as the case in point, forsake their integrity to try and benefit financially or appeal to a mass audience. Well I am of the opinion that Black Eyed Peas have sold out their integrity as artists to the extreme. I tried to look the other way and cover my ears when they were whoring themselves all over those Mountain Dew commercials (or was it Sprite? does it matter?) But this album is an embarrassment to true hip hop enthusiasts everywhere. One of the most overused and lazy formats of rap songs out there right now is getting a female singer to sing all your choruses in between all the rapping. Well, the Peas must have thought Damn! we got to get one of those so we can be cool like everyone else! So they went out and recruited new member Fergie, who sounds like a third rate Ashanti/Nelly Furtado lite.

The second most overused format in hip hop is to get whoever is hot to guest on your record. Enter bland flavor of the day Justin Timberlake to guest on "Where is the Love." And the third most overused format is to blend hard rock metal with your hip hop. What do you do when you can't get Linkin Park? Why, you hire Papa Roach on "Anxiety" at half the price of course! Man, could this album get any more retarded? Well it could when the big "let's get this party started anthem" song is called "Let's Get Retarded." Sound stupid? It should, and it is. Do yourself a favor and go buy the Peas first two records, and forget that this one even exists.

well said. this was the album that kicked off their downward spiral into a cheesy, family-friendly pop group that is somehow still hugely popular today. this was definitely not what i expected after the brilliant "Bridging the Gap."
