Ferryesque would be the more appropriate name for this collection of Bob Dylan covers, because despite the author of these tunes, you will hear the Ferry sound prevail. A slicker production with a more punctuated warbly vocal affectation, but still shot through with the Ferryman's patented style to be sure. Not to say that Ferry doesn't allow a little soulfulness to "Simple Twist of Fate" or a funkiness to "All Along the Watchtower" with a little help from Robin Trower.

How much anyone likes a cover collection depends on personal prejudice as to song selection. But from and artists standpoint, a covers album should be more that an imitation or simple tribute. Ferry has, along with his mates in Roxy Music, been an interpreter of styles as well as songwriters with progressive rock underpinning and while this CD is no major revelation, it's plenty welcome for dedicated fans and pupils of one of the chief headmasters of the old school.
