Margo Timmins and her brothers Michael and Peter have been bringing their alternative country music to the masses for 18 years now, and One Soul Now marks their ninth album in that stretch. It's astounding that these Canadians, in my humble opinion, have never released a mediocre album, unfortunately that lengthy streak ends here. One Soul Now is a definite misstep for this usually dependable band, as it trots along at an almost monotonous pace that feels quite uninspired. It also doesn't help that Margo's lyrics, which are usually this band's saving grace, come off truly displeasing. On "Simon Keeper," Timmins rattles off the unsettling line "Jesus was a carpenter, he died nailed to wooden cross. Irony oh irony upon me is never lost." The lone winner on One Soul Now is the guitar fueled "Why This One" which Michael lays his axe down to quite heavily, more so than I'm sure most Junkies fans are used to, but that's what makes it great. Other than that however, One Soul Now I'm sure is destined for the bargain bins and used section at your local CD shop.
