There's a boundary in the metal world that many of the most extreme headbanger will not cross--the taboo terrain known as black metal. Cradle of Filth are probably the most notorious black metal band to ever darken the landscape, and one might wonder why I dare listen to this stuff, let alone review it. Allow me to clarify, I hate black metal! For the most part it's alot of evil noise, but Cradle of Filth are an exception because they make it so seductive. Combining an intriguing blend of poetic cacophony, old school thrash, and nightmarish symphony, they will either drive you insane or lure you into a world of purely evil imagery. Cradle of Filth would probably be Dracula's crazy teenage son's favorite band. These guys are a collection of morbid and ghastly souls and their music is every bit as creepy as they look.
Although my personal favorite is 1999's From The Cradle To Enslave, Succubi will not disappoint any fan of the Filth boys. Tracks like "Born in a Burial Gown" and "Suicide and Other Comforts" stand out most on this record for being both entrancing and intense. I gave this one a rating of 2, because you really should sample it safely, before you commit to actually buying this stuff. I have to confess an affinity for this band, but be warned that it's an acquired taste, that's not for everybody. If you're a rabid fan of metal like me, who can handle a rough ride, strap on your fangs and be prepared to sink them into some dark meat.
