Wow, where to begin. This is a very hard band to critique. These guys helped to create modern music as we know it today, and I fear saying anything negative about a band that has spanned three decades of rock and roll. For a band as extraordinary as CSN&Y it is hard to believe that this is only their fourth studio release together. Which means, if you do the math, these guys are only releasing an album about every 8 years or so. Which also means these guys are getting up there in years. But, they can still rock. I must admit I didn't expect too much from this album, especially considering the mediocrity of their last release. Neil Young rarely releases anything disappointing, but as for Crosby, Stills, and Nash, I cannot say I am always impressed with their albums. Happily, this one is great. All four of these guys show off their amazing talent as songwriters.
Crosby lays down the goods with "Dream for Him" and Young sounds great on "Queen of Them All." The riffs are strong and catchy and songs are reminiscent of the 60's rock-style these guys invented. Whether you remember the woodstock-era or only have memories of pay-per-view Woodstock anniversaries this album is definitely worth having.
