Voodoo is a sincerely delighting, soulful treat. This is D'Angelo's second release and an excellent follow up to his album Brown Sugar. Many of the sounds on Voodoo carry melodies reminiscent of early Motown, with hints of Al Green and Marvin Gaye. But, this record isn't just slow ballads and smooth tones--there is some serious groove and intricate guitar licks.
D'Angelo definitely has a retro feel and this release was worth the five year wait. Voodoo is a pleasure to listen to.
