Live albums from Electronic artists usually fall somewhere between the words redundant and repulsive and if anyone should know this it's Daft Punk. Six years ago they released Alive 1997, a time capsule of a live album culled from their tour of their first masterpiece Homework and boy was it a lesson in what not to do with a live album (a 16 minute version of "Da Funk" repetitiveness? No thanks!).

For Alive 2007, Daft Punk have finally gotten right what they so uncharacteristically did wrong over a half decade ago, which is always keep the party moving and being one step ahead of what the audience is expecting. Bits and pieces of all three studio LP's are assembled together making one helluva DP mix-tape style experience. The nicest surprise is the fact that most of the tracks from 2005's under-whelming Human After All have been re-worked here and they sound better in this live setting than they did in the originals. The only knock on Alive 2007 that I have is the fact that the French duo have decided not to accompany this live album with a DVD of the live spectacle that was the Human After All tour. The robot suits, the giant pyramid, the massive triangle setup of neon lights pulsating to every beat, none of it is found here which would have been a feast for eyes that aren't privy to seeing it for themselves (like I did at Vegoose a few months back). Oh well, I guess watching bootlegged clips on YouTube will have to suffice until our favorite French robots get a clue and let everyone in on what a visual tour de force this live show really was.
