As a big fan of Pantera, I can't help but be a little let down by this promising release. Damageplan's guitarist Dimebag Darrell and drummer Vinnie Paul were a lot of the bite of Pantera and could hang with the best of them which they've proved time and again.
Now with the demise of Pantera comes Dime and Vinnie's new band Damageplan and they hyped it up to be as good as Pantera and that it wouldn't disappoint the fans. They couldn't have been more wrong. These two are capable of much better--it's seriously sad to see how the crappy mainstream metal of the past few years has poisoned their sound. True, there are a few touches of Dime's classic playing on the album but not enough of to save it from being uninspiringly mediocre.
I agree with a lot of the reviews I've read about this record and the singer (former Halford guitarist Pat Lachman) can sing when he's actually trying to "sing" but when he screams he sounds like a cheap impostor of Pantera's former frontman--sorry dude! You are not Phil Anselmo!
