The Dave Matthews Band love their fans. This is clearly evident by all the live material they have released, including the new, Live at Folsom Field. The recording quality of this live release is outstanding, and considering that he is backed by some of the finest players on the planet, this comes as no surprise. Surprisingly the set list features many of the songs from his Everyday album--his collaboration with Glenn Ballard that was criticized by many of his stalwart fans, because of it's slick production and lack of the DMB's customary jam-time.
If anything the concert-ized versions of these songs prove that given the live treatment they hold up well amid the rest of his catalogue. Highlights include "JTR" which rarely finds it's way onto his live set-list and it's truly awesome. Also included is Dylan's "All Along The Watchtower," a tune that's seen a number of fantastic cover versions from Hendrix to the Grateful Dead, but if you've never heard the DMB lay it down, it's not to be missed.
They close with "Ants Marching," a song that allows the entire band to show off plenty of mean chops, and makes for a dazzling finale. Live at Folsom Field is not only another great live album for fans to add to their collection, but it also serve as perfect way for a newcomer to join the party.
