Following in the footsteps of Metallica, Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, and of course the Dead, the Dave Matthews Band has become one of those rock bands that is no longer just about music-- it's become a way of life, a religion. Though I consider Matthews to be a gifted songwriter and performer, I'm not ready to tattoo his name on my forehead.
The band's latest release, Busted Stuff, delivers the same brilliance and simple fun that has become the standard. Nine of the eleven tracks come to us courtesy the infamous lost record, "The Lillywhite" sessions, which were thrown out in favor of the Glen Ballard produced record, Everyday. The "Lilly white" sessions have been available through bootlegs and internet file sharing, something Dave openly promotes, for about a year now. Busted Stuff is a little more fine-tuned for marketability, but is still great record to groove too. Overall, this is a record for fans who worship Dave's patented acoustic guitar mastery, his world-class rhythm section and his mean fiddle player.
