Perhaps no other musician has managed to change with the times better than David Bowie. He helped start the glam-rock movement in the 70's and made the transition to the 80's with the completely accessible Let's Dance. I'm not even mentioning the brilliant albums in between--it would take too much time.
In the 90's, Bowie brought us two of the greatest rock albums: Outside and Earthling. He's also bridged the gap between old and new artists by collaborating with Trent Reznor.
Now, he returns with Hours..., an album that is surprisingly mellow and yet, every bit as exciting and innovative as anything on his discography. The entire album is one big highlight, but my favorite track remains the very tender "Thursday's Child." He has kept the services of guitarist Reeves Gabrels and together, have produced the finest album out on the shelf right now.
David Bowie is an icon. Through the years, he hasn't only matured as an artist, but he has helped to create new sounds and styles of music. Hours... is just his latest in a string of masterpieces.
