I have to be honest with you, for a long time I had no idea who Dirty Vegas was. When they first got popular I just thought, "Hell yeah dude, Vegas and shit. I live close to Vegas Bro, hella and shit." But after close radio and television observation of the band's works I realized that these crazy ravers have more than just glow sticks and pacifiers up their sleeve, they've got talent. Back when "Days Go By" first became a hit I used to hush up people whenever it came on. I was like, "Ah yeah, this my song - ah shit cuz!" Damn those are some great memories.
Anyway, I was expecting a lot of unce- unce- unce- unce" style trance shit when I picked up Dirty Vegas's second album One. What I got is what sounds like a group who's been eavesdropping on Depeche Mode and picked up
trace elements of Vast. In contrast to their previous release, the group has taken off their Techno-tronic colored dreamcoat and packed away the drum machine and produced something that could easily be found in Adam Mast's CD player. There is a lot of acoustic work and it seems to me like the band is trying to step up their profundity factor, both with their lyrics and songcraft. There is actually a little fabricated sound blended into the middle of the album but it only gives a hint of techno-flair which adds trance flavor with tasteful restraint. And sorry, but there is no Pink Floyd covers on this album. One may not inspire you to start spinning mad beats on your Lazy Susan but it's a solid outing nonetheless.
