Doyle Bramhall is truly a throwback, and though he touches on every influence from Hendrix, Deep Purple, Steppenwolf, Bad Company--these blues-rock renderings are nothing if not refreshing. It's good to see someone championing a kind of music that's all but disappeared from the landscape of current music. If youÕre a fan of any of the aforementioned legends, this album should serve as balm to your aching bluesy soul. Nothing is left out, from Claptonesque solo flights, to crunchy Grand Funk Railroad bar-chord choruses--it's all here. And it's all good. By all rights, his vocal and guitar chops should attract all new legions of fans to this type of music. It's not exactly my cup of tea, but I recommend it highly nonetheless. Doyle's got the kettle whistling like mad.
