It's funny how certain bands can consistently crank out albums and never make even a tiny ripple in the music world. Take for instance Early Day Miners, a slowcore band from Bloomington, Indiana. All Harm Ends Here is their fourth album in nearly as many years, and their formula is pretty simple. Droning, melodic guitar riffs, complimented by a solid rhythm section and a vocalist who mumbles almost completely inaudible vocals is just about all they have to offer for this, and all their previous releases. Is there really any reason for you to care? Not really, unless you're a slowcore/sadcore afficianado (like myself) and just want something new to listen to. But to be brutally honest, Early Day Miners aren't breaking any new ground here. They're not going to knock your socks off like someone of Codeine's caliber, and they're certainly not as heartfelt or introspective of say Mark Kozelek or Neil Halstead from Red House Painters and Slowdive respectively. Hell, Early Day Miners aren't even in the top three of Secretly Canadian's recording label. Those honors go to Magnolia Electric Co, Damien Juardo, and Impossible Shapes in my humble opinion. No, Early Day Miners certainly aren't anything special, but if you're someone that enjoys the slower and more sedate side of the rock spectrum, and you've exhausted all other options, well these guys are just decent enough to be worth a shot.
