Well, it's finally here! I couldn't believe how long Eminem had his hit single, "My Name Is," playing all over the airwaves before his CD was released.
In case you didn't know, Eminem is Dr. Dre's newest protege. But surprisingly, when you listen to this CD, you definitely don't get what you'd expect with endorsement from an ex-NWA member. Rather than hard-hitting beats and west coast gangsta-rap, you receive something more like an adolescent Ad-Rock (Beastie Boys) with a mouth that would probably make even Madonna blush.
Don't get me wrong though, this CD is pretty damn good. The production is reminiscent of early Def-Jam releases. The beats are steady and punctual and the style seems like something we've heard before, say like early L.L. Cool J or Run DMC.
If you like rappers with a bit of a whiny voice and a flair for free-style, pick this one up and get ready for a barrage of cynical, adolescent, slapstick humor--backed up with samples that are almost as funny as him dressed up as Marilyn Manson. So pop this one in and don't worry, this Eminem definitely won't melt in your hands.
