Say what you will about the former lead man of the Lemonheads, most considered him a drama queen, and a poor poor me act of the early 90's; but personally I considered him quite an amazing talent. It really is a shame that the Lemonheads claim to fame was that piss poor cover version of Simon & Garfunkel's "Mrs. Robinson," they had so many other great songs, but that cover song forever tagged them as a one trick pony. Dando has pretty much lived in seclusion for the last eight years, give or take a few one-off solo shows, doing mostly peculiar cover songs of alt country heroes such as John Prine & Steve Earle. Listening to those bootleg live recordings pretty much had me prepared for this, his first ever solo album. For the most part, it flows very well, and you can definitely hear the alternative country influences, but it also benefits from Aimee Mann and Elliott Smith collaberator and equal genius Jon Brion.

Brion helps out on half of the album, and his upbeat popiness is a definite helper to Dando's downer lyrics. On "Shots Is Fired," Dando states "Whoever is calling the shots here is fired." Which could lead one to believe that Dando is finally out of the rut he was in, and is finally ready to contribute to the music world once again. Baby I'm Bored is fine comeback record, and hopefully it won't take another eight years to hear from him once again.

Dando is a god - loved him from way before the lemonheads. He's still my idea of an alt/rock uber-troubadour
