As something of a lyricist myself I'm a little picky and not usually impressed with a lot of artists out there, but I'm positively blown away by the sheer emotion Evanescence singer Amy Lee packs into her songs.
Echoing with all the heartache and despair of a gothic tragedy, Evanescence' debut Fallen is heartbreakingly good and may well be the saddest record I've ever heard. There are moments on this album like on the track "Hello," where the palpable and seductive pathos of singer Amy Lee's wordplay are just staggering. Evanescence have beautifully captured the essence of pain and lovelorn anguish, on an album that shifts from industrial strength heaviness to ballads which bring to mind Jewel's "Foolish Games."
Fallen certainly finds these two Arkansas natives on the rise. Propelled by their hit single "Bring Me to Life" (which was on the Daredevil soundtrack) the band is tearing up the Billboard charts. They appear poised to make quite a dark mark for themselves.
