Apparently, Songs From An American Movie Vol. One: Learning How To Smile wasnÕt enough pop mush for these rockers-turned boy band wannabies-to be satisfied. Vol. Two: Good Time For A Bad Attitude is the band's second album in less than a year. Luckily, Vol. Two is the guitar-driven flip side to the pop-ready slush-rock of its predecessor.
If Everclear's recent singles "Wonderful" and "A.M. Radio" were a little too soft for you, take heart. The band kicks out the jam with their latest gem, "When It All Goes Wrong Again." It's complete with Everclear's trademark harmonies and melodies in true rock form. Other great tracks include "Slide" and "Misery Whip." Lead singer/producer, Art Alexakis' lyrics and sound lean toward the negative, something that has always shined through on past records and compels fans, including myself. Alexakis is a musical genius of our day, however, his producing talents tend to be a little over the top, and the album lacks the raw sound that predates Afterglow. But who's complaining, Vol. Two gives fans good rock for their buck.
If Alexakis would have combined highlights from the two volumes, it might,ve made for a better, more appreciated Everclear record, and an impressive follow-up to 1997's radio friendly release, So Much For the Afterglow. For true fans, Vol. Two will more than suffice. As for Art and the boys, it seems everything is back to business as usual.
