Galactic tastes like a dry chicken bone from New Orleans deep-fried in
the grease of Gorillaz, Monster Magnet, and The Commodores. Hey Galactic,
Ben Harper called, he wants his voice back. Ruckus seems like a jam album
more than a singing album like all of Galactic's other stuff and thank
God because singer, Theryl Declouet, sounds like he is trying waaaayyyy
too hard to sing funky. "Over doing-it" is also another great way to
describe his voice. Annoyingly, the vocals pop up at random times
dispersed throughout the album. Stand-out lame vocalizing turns up on "Uptown
Odyssey" "Bittersweet" and "Never Called You Crazy." The music on the
album is great and well composed, but it gets ruined as soon as the
Theryl's singing comes in to play; much like that guy from New Found
Glory. One song known for its musical longevity is "Gypsy Fade" which has
some Weird Al Yankovic-style tech-wizardry on the accordion. I'm probably
pissing off a lot of people by not liking this band but frankly I don't
give a shit. People reading this that like the band have probably got a
trigger finger poised on their mouse and ready to fire at the message
board to yell back. Come on, I am not going to like a band just because
the majority says they're awesome. Go ahead call me an
asshole who doesn't know shit about music, see if I care, this is about
as honest as I can get.
