The first time I ever heard the wacky new category for rock and roll they call Emo was as a description for this band. I guess the term applies as well to The Get Up Kids as it does as to any other band, and I'm something of a fan--but don''t mistake Eudora for the new album. It is, however, a surprisingly well produced and selected collection of the band's old cover songs, compilation tracks, 7inches and various other rare and out of print recordings. As salvaged Get Up Kids retrospectives go--Eudora is a better deal than their last retread release Red Letter Day. It features a number of covers by such old-school Emo-ers as David Bowie, The Replacements, The Pixies and The Cure as well as a nice peppering of their own driving, emo-tionally melodic ditties. It's well worth the price not only for collectors, but for anyone looking for a user-friendly introduction to this cool band.
