I've been a fan of Godsmack for over four years now--in fact I actually bought their first album at Walmart before they discovered it had bad language on it.
Godsmack has always been a loud and heavy outfit who borrow from a number of great metal bands--still they have a unique groove and attitude that sets them apart from the legions of copycats.
Their previous release, Awake fell a little short of expectations and found the Boston-based band lacking a bit in the evolution department--but it seems all it took was recording a song for the soundtrack to the Scorpion King to kick-start the second phase of Godsmack.
The result is an amazingly heavy and dynamic album that seems to revolve around that song. Faceless is, without a doubt, the heaviest, in-your-face record Godsmack has offered to date.
Though I can't help but hear a little bit of the Deftones "My Own Summer" on some of the tracks--every band member pushed themselves to new musical heights and the result is a record that literally slams itself down the listeners throat. Remain skeptical if you will, but if you like the heavy-stuff, Faceless is a must.
