First of all, if you haven't seen the new Godzilla movie yet, don't! However, if you haven't heard the soundtrack, you probably should. Contending as one of the best soundtracks of the year, Godzilla offers some awesome tracks by some monstrous contributors. (Of course, it's only June, and The X-Files and Armageddon soundtracks are right on Godzilla's tail).

The Wallflowers kick it all off with a faithful cover of David Bowie's "Heroes." Their's isn't exactly a heroic effort--but you have to remember who did it first. Following that is one of the most incredible collaborations ever! Are you sick of Puff Daddy yet? Well, he's back, and he brought along the undisputed god of rock guitar himself, Jimmy Page. Puff even rounded up one of the kids heroes, Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine, for rhythm. Add that combo to an old Zep classic, "Kashmir," throw in Puff's recognizable lyric, "Uh huh, yeah!," and it's an instant hit!

Rage Against the Machine offers a new track to the Monster-bash with possibly their finest yet. With "No Shelter," Rage gives us what they're best at, giant riffs, dynamic vocals, and numbing rhythms that will send chills down your spine and always draw you to the repeat button. The Foo Fighters also lend us yet another soothing masterpiece "A320"--which is one of the compilation's highlights and compares well the Foo's previous work. Other great tracks are furnished by Silverchair, Jamiroquai, and Ben Folds Five. The rest of the songs on the list aren't much better than the movie, with the exception of Green Day's Godzilla remix of "Brain Stew." What more could you want?
As soundtrack CD's go, this lizard cooks--so don't wait for the other foot to fall--get your meat hooks on it. Besides, did I mention it had A NEW RAGE SONG!?!
